Default Refinished my Phone dial rims

Just repainted my phone dials and I am very happy with the results. I used Dupli-color Hyper Silver spray paint kit.

Total cost= $20 + my labor.

Thanks! Each wheel took about 30 minutes. Well worth it.

Did you go through several iterations of paper...e.g. 200, 500, then 1000 grit?

How many coats of color did you put down? Hard to tell...then top off with 1 or 2 coats of clear?

I didn't use any paper at all. Here is exactly what I did:

1. Jack car up and remove wheel
2. Cleaned wheel front and back 3x with a good de-greaser, a brush and a garden hose. Remove wheel weights and glue using some wd-40 and Brillo pad.
3. Dried it off with my leaf blower
4. Removed all the air from the tire so I can push the tire in slightly around the rim and place some cards around it [to mask it off] [see pic] I also taped off the center cap Porsche crest.
5. Gave the rim 4 light even coats of Dupli-color hyper silver paint
6.Wait 30 minutes
7. Gave the rim 4 light even coats of Dupli-color clear
8. Refill with air using my Viair pump [I highly recommend you buy this air pump-its the best]

That's it. No sanding, no buffing - nada.

I already put about 100 miles on them and washed them once and so far they have held up just fine. Here is a pic from today - they are a little dirty but easy to clean up with soap and water.

Does the center cap come out easily? I think I might do what you did because mine are badly faded. Looks really good!

When you do it you should mask off the lug seat area. These are unpainted from the factory (in order to maximize friction).
