Default Fuel smell near drivers front wheel on a 1988 924

Hey gang - I filled up my tank and I noticed the smell of raw gasoline mostly when the windows were open and it seems to be near the front drivers side wheel well area. When the windows were closed it was much better. I did read the archives and some are saying to change the charcoal canister. Where is this canister located on my 1988 924? Also, how does it go bad?

Thanks in advance.

the fuel vapor recovery canister is behind the inner fender panel on driver's side - it is either damaged or the hose to it has broken, or the line to the vac system is not working - check those things.

I took a look there and replaced a long braided hose connected to it. That hose was a mess and was reeking of gasoline. The smell is gone now. I think I got lucky.
