What are the symptoms? Is the shift lever moving, but not affecting gear? Or can you not move the shift lever?

Most common issue would be the shift rod coming loose at the trans from the tapered bolt backing out, leaving the shifter loose/floppy; it is supposed to be safety-wired in place. This can easily be checked just by jacking the rear of the car up and getting up underneath; the shift rod runs along the top of the torque tube into the top of the trans, usually there's a rubber boot covering the bolt where the shift rod connects with the trans shift input rod. Simply see if they're still connected tightly.

I'm assuming that's the issue, since the trans drove and shifted fine when I had the car (and I've not heard of these locking in gear after being used a bit - more likely would be due to incorrect reassembly after a rebuild).

HTH...

Is this a 931? or 924?
If a 924 my guess is you spun 3rd gear on the main shaft. IIRC it(or 2nd) is a press fit and can spin. Find someone who has had one of these apart and they can put the gear back in place and have it brazed/welded. Or buy another for about $300. Actually I might have one to sell!
good luck.
