looking to do a 924 GTS conversion
I have a 1984 black 944 with the engine out and wanting to do a big brake conversion, so I am looking for information to see if its worth doing a 924 GTS conversion.

Exactly what does a GTS conversion mean to you? Bodywork? I can't imagine you're gonna start by pulling the motor and dropping a 2.0L turbo...

I want to put a good 951 motor in and make my 944 or pseudo 951 look like a 924 GTS. I have always like the looks of the 924 GTS because of its racing history and the hood scoop is kinda cool also. LOL.

OK - makes a huge difference!! The mechanicals are far less do-able.
I've got a huge stack of GTR bodywork from GT Racing that I'm still waiting to get to - been too busy racing, recently! DOH! Some have said that they aren't too happy with the quality of the parts; I can't really speak to that, since they're still sitting in a box.
One issue you might have is that the rear of the GTS was only the narrow 924 fenders with the Carrera GT flares; your fenders are already that wide anyway, so presumably you'd leave them. Then the only real parts you'd need would be the hood scoop, vented badge panel, fixed headlight conversion (especially needed to fit/duct the 951 IC) and possibly the front clip, if desired.

I've got the GT fiberglass front fenders sitting in my garage and will begin picking up the rest this summer. Not sure if I'll do the hood scoop or not since there is no intercooler in my engine bay (968 engine). Anyone know how much drag that thing creates? Would there be any benefit for cooling my headers?
Vaughn, what weight do you think you can get your car down to? Right know I'm at 2,425 lbs with a full cage and two seats, gutted to the max, but no fiberglass or lexan, and still running those extremely heavy bumpers! I'm guessing with fiberglass and lexan, the car will be around 2200?
Still not sure what wheel and tire combo I'll be going with. I picked up a set of 15x7 cookies for a song, I'll likely put rain tires on that set. For dries, I'm thinking of going with 16x8 running 245's or 255's.
As for big brakes, I went with the Rennbay brake kit about 2 years ago, it gives you Wilwood 4-piston calipers up front that still allow you to run 15" wheels. Plenty of stopping power, in fact I can't use the most aggressive pads as I look the wheels up too much, no ABS and not enough rubber on the road with my 225's.

Use the hood scoop in the lower driver's side corner of the hood, as a cold air intake.
I think you should be able to manage 2300 no prob with the 'glass and lexan. 2200 might be a stretch.
I have the Rennbay Wilwood kit, sitting on a shelf, waiting to go on the car...

I have an 88 924S parts shell. One day I just may do a GTS/951 conversion on it. My thoughts right now are to to replicate the Carrera GTS (or may be GT) not sure yet as much as possible visually on the outside and inside. Driveline would be all 951 however. Probalby never happen, but maybe one day.
Of course some other thoughts are a 944 Turbo Cup street/track replica (of course the 924S is not good start point for that one). Who knows.

I'll bet it will go to 2250! (sans driver and 1/4 tank gas).

I love the look of the GTR, but don't want to go that wide. I'm going to settle with the GTS look. Post up some livery shots if anyone has them.

The 937 that is pictured in GT racing catalog, we use to own, and did the conversion (man our shop was small at the time, lol). I have tons of pictures of the process.
