What is a tub worth these days.
It has suspension and a few misc parts but it would need a complete build.
It has a little rust in the front pan and the top rear of the passenger front fender. The hell hole is rusted through. The rest of the car is almost rust free. The longs are rock solid.
What would you offer for a tub like this?
I'm trying to decide if I want to buy it as a father son build project for my 13 year old.

a good straight never been wrecked tub is easily worth 2000 for the value of the two front fenders two rear quarter panels and front and rear panels

Well I may agree with the good doctor if you were to part one out, assuming you had a good straight non-wrecked tub. But that would just be sad to cut up a tub in that condition. I would hope people are cutting up cars that have terminal rust. I still think $1K is about right for a restorable tub w/o major rust issues, assuming the owner has title to transfer.

If you can get a tub with suspension ,all sheet metal , and wiring without rust under $2000 I think your doing great!
Most of these available tubs have plenty wrong , hit , twisted ,rusty ..I found a SoCal tub
no rust with metal flares , no suspension , wiring and reinforcemnt panels and glass for $2500 last year and I think I got a deal... Bert
Oh and it included 6 conversion mounts to boot !

good 914 bodies are always the hardest thing to find. Like any car, if someone could make new bodies many many more cars would be restored. Look at british motor heritage in their mg body remakes! (and those cars are not even worth that much!) (I can get away saying that because my son and I have identical MGB GT specials!!! and love them!)

I have not pulled the trigger on the first tub I found but I just bought a different one.

It has some bondo in front of the rear wheel on the passenger side and the front fender needs some work on that side as well. The PO has a rear fender I could get as well. I'm just not sure if the damage warrants replacing the whole fender or not.

The battery tray has been removed and there is some rust in the hell hole but the rest of the car is rock solid.

It is extremely ugly at this point, grey primer with stripes of black spray paint.
The seats are in really good shape. The dash and drivers door panel are ok.

The biggest thing it needs now is a good thorough cleaning.

It will need to be stripped down and the fenders fixed before paint.

The big question is if I keep it for a project or flip it for some cash.

I took these last few after removing some of the worst of the black spray paint.

There is still a LONG way to go.
The is more body work to do than I originally noticed(several spots of bondo) but other than some limited surface rust, there is no serious structural rust.

Slow progress.
More paint cleanup and removed the old, dry rotted tires. Painted the rims. Three are original rims and one is a wider aftermarket replacement.

You have it that far apart, might as well send it to a media blaster and get it all the way down to bare metal. It's so far apart at this stage it kind of doesn't make sense to try to do anything less than that in my opinion. It actually doesn't look too bad rust-wise - I've seen many restored from far worse condition.

My plan has always been to send it off to a dustless media blaster in the next few weeks.
I would not have bought it if the rust was bad. It has almost no structural rust.

I put some primer on it to keep down any surface rust until I send it off to the blaster.

Here it is with the temporary tires.
