Default Reviving the old Zambezi 914

Hey Rennlisters,

I've had an 914 in the family for the past 25 years, but hasn't been driven in probably 10 years or so. I've been playing with more....modern vehicles but I think maybe it's time to get this thing running safely at least.

Does anyone know a Northern California shop that knows how to handle/work on these cars?

I'm a track rat that is used to working on cars, but I don't really trust myself to figure out what may or may not be wrong on such an old car.

I'd like to get updated brakes and tires on it at least. Fluids need to be changed out obviously. Also want to make sure all rubber lines, belts, etc are looked at and changed if necessary. Hope to update the suspension as well.

The hope is to get the car eventually to a point where I can safely autocross and track it.

Any advice or shop recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

I have no idea what HPH charges for service work. I just know every part I have ever seen advertised by HPH is beyond astronomical. For example, they have advertised a modified factory 914-6 motor mount for $3,795 http://www.ebay.com/itm/914-6-Used-M...lWe0I-&vxp=mtr. To me, it looks like junk - I could be wrong.

Another shop has two completely stock, perfect condition, factory 914-6 mounts (same parts) advertised for $400 each. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=278404

Now perhaps HPH's parts prices offset the costs for maintenance work in their shop. I don't know, but I would be very clear about costs walking in the door.
