Makes me feel old- the new Porsche dealer in Cedar Rapids, Iowa at the time (Gruber Porsche+Audi) needed to get a 914 from Minneapolis to CR for their grand opening. It was a European model, blue, with the VW portion of the VW-Porsche emblem on the back panel covered up and a Wolfsburg symbol on the steering wheel instead of a Porsche crest. One of my best friends (also a gearhead and future 914 owner as well) and I offered to drive it down from Minnesota- drove up in a Audi 100LS (remember those??) Was in the winter and must have been 1969... ah, memories...

(got some old B&W pix from that trip somewhere!!)

would like to see pix of your turbo set up. Had a "homebuilt" turbo on mine for a while back in the late 70's with water injection and side draft carb. A good friend and long time Porsche mechanic ( and holder of several land speed records at Bonneville with a Speedster and various VW's ) designed and built it.

Light car and the turbo had just the right A/R of .40, it would spool at 2,000 rpm. First gear launch was interesting to the unsuspecting 911 at the greenlight. Best 1/4 mile was 15.4 at 95mph. Rolling the boost on at highway speeds was almost instantaneous. I did slalom and big track Riverside + Willow Springs with this 2.0 turbo as well. The engine served me well, and then went into a sand rail. That's when I swapped a turbo cis 2.7 into the '74 914. The 914 has always been my favorite roadster !

Michelob of was my beer, then it was tequila sunrises !¡
I found this cool VW (+ Porsche) 1960s time line poster. 1969 was the launch of the 1970 914 model. Check out all the cool things going on in the poster...all the VW models (no beetle) and the new mittlemotor 914.
