Default Wheel Fitment

Quick question for the expert – is there any fitment issue regarding wheels and model years in the 914-4? Someone informed me 70-72 front hubs are smaller and those model year wheels would not fit 73-75 without machining? Thoughts?

Nope, they are the same. The 914-6 which was made from '70-'72 is a 5 lug, so maybe that is what people mean.

But be aware that different length lug bolts are used for different wheels...

They are different..

In fact, iirc, you can find "early" and "late" pedriini wheels for this very reason.

Something to do with a centering ring on the later cars to keep the wheels in better balance. Can't recall all details.. brain getting old and stuff..

In fact, on my latest, a '76, I was provided a pair (2) of machined old wheels that worked on the later car. This only impacts the FRONTS, not the rears.

You can use "late" wheels on all cars btw.

...luck isn't on my side - wheels don't fit and will have to be machined Also, studs are too short (coming from a steel rim) - what's the correct length for alloys rims?

There are several sizes of "bolts" .. 914s use lug bolts, not studs (unless its a 914-6 or a 5-bolt conversion car).

Forget exact lengths, but "steel wheels" and "alloy wheels" are of different lengths. Pelican parts shows 38mm for "alloy wheels" http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/...361-315-01-OEM
