914-6 Restoration Shop Recommendations
I'm looking for recommendations for a shop to complete a full restoration on a semi rough low mileage 914-6 that has been sitting for many years. I'd prefer east coast/midwest but will not limit for the right shop. The budget is not an issue. The car will join a collection when completed and be maintained and driven occassionally.

Stalltek, Wellman, Iowa. Do a lot of 356 stuff but some 911 as well. They are currently finishing a restoration of my '73 914 2.0. Two Mennonite brothers who are perfectionists. See some of my pix on restoration thread here.
Looking at the shop from the outside, you'd never believe what they do on the inside...

While I would go with the above first, Mike's Autobody in the Boston, Mass area has done 914's in the past and they are very good. Finally, if money is no object then you can't do better then the Paterak (sp) Brothers in NJ.

I remember hearing Paterek at War Bonnett tech sessions many years ago, when he still had the America roadster. Thought he'd never sell that!! Yeah he's GOOD!!

That's not Paterak. That is a guy named Mark Allin. He used to work for www.paulrussell.com and started his own business about 10 years ago.
Paterak could do an excellent job too. Their website is http://www.paterekbrothersinc.com/

There's a guy in Peoria, Il. named Brad Mauer (sp?) that works mainly on 914's; I've never seen his work but people have told me it's excellent. He advertises in Panorama, let me know if you can't find it and I'll dig his info out.

We got some of the restoration parts for the '73 from him. The guys doing my car were very impressed with his stuff. I knew he sold parts etc- didn't realize he did bodywork as well...
