I ran Porterfied R-4S pads in my stockish '76.

Weight?

My early 1970, with carpets out, full tank of gas was 1990lb w/o driver.
My late 1976, similar set up, was closer to 2200lb w/o driver.

2100# with driver means a 1950# or less car. The only stuff that made the late cars heavier was added safety stuff (bumpers, door beams etc). Using stock steel panels, there isn't a lot of weight to take out, unless you cut off the windshield.

In the mid 1990s I recal several friends doing a similar thing. Theay each bought a stock 1.7/1.8 and had at it. Fun, if only because they then had someone to run with. That lasted for about 1 season.

x100 that a $1500-2500 isn't worth the effort, typically.. but if from a dry climate, maybe its still possible?

Check out "tangerine racing" for header ideas.. and triple the price of the car. Don't foget center tunnel plastic fuel lines will need replacement.

Once you factor in a cage, seats, and all the other "spec" stuff, imho, you are easily spending "944 spec" money.. but have a slower car.

Better off builind up a PCA GT6(?) class car instead, imho.

Build your 1.8 to a 2.4. it'll be really fast... and look like a 1.8 from the outside.
