Default starts great, runs about ten mins..dies and won't re-start till next day

1974 914 2.0 all stock. Starts fine and runs strong, then after driving just far enough to be too far to walk home, she starts to sputter and dies. Will not restart for hours, but the next day runs like a dream again.

When she is dead she has spark, and I can hear the fuel pump but it sounds weak when it won't run. Sounds perfect the next day. Tried starting fluid when it died, maybe didn't get it down the throat but I got nutin with the fluid.

If it has spark and air, then it has to be fuel. Is the fuel filter clean? Is the strainer in the tank clean? How is the fuel pressure? That's were I would start.

my thought too.. that's why I gave the starting fluid a shot. Brand new fuel lines, fuel pump, filter, tank removed/cleaned/lined.

Where is the strainer in the tank? Never found that.

It's on one of the lines when you take them out of the tank. I can't remember which one, but there was a photo of it in one of Peter's threads.

Also check the routing of the fuel lines for vapor lock.

turned out to be FPR. Fuel pressure was at 90 psi when car dies. Dumping pressure allows car to re-start. New FPR ordered.
