Default AUTO ATLANTA...

Brad, I've just about given up with my '74 1.8. I can't find a rebuilt/known good AFM or ECU, so I think that I'm ready to put carbs on my car. I just spent almost $400 having the FI harness reconditioned, exact same problem still there. I'm pretty sure that I've got a lean condition, but there are NO air leaks, and nothing that I do changes the bad accel symptom. Must be a problem buried inside the ECU, but I've had that tested by a guru, and it came back OK.

Do you have a carb kit (complete w/linkage, filters, etc.) available?

Of course, if you're reading this, and you're not Brad, but you have a nice, complete carb set that you no longer need, please pm me!

Check out Tangerine Racing- they have a ton of 914 stuff and a different kind of linkage and distributor for carbed engines. Only issue is you'll need a different cam to take advantage of them. Will run with FI cam but not as well.
The '73 I'm restoring will have carbs- they just look so much cleaner and run decently if sorted out. I've had them on my '71 for 25+ years with Webers. Had Solex's on it in the early 70's like the 914's raced at that time- same as 356 SC, etc. Just got my new Web-Cam for the '73 that is specifically for carbed engines.

Wait til' Monday. I am almost sure we have a 1.8 "brain" on the shelf. I "may" have a rebuilt AFM as well.

PM me on Monday, and I will let you know.

Thanks, Brad, I'll find you Monday afternoon via pm.

sk, thanks for the comments. I'm trying to arrest spiraling costs regarding this project, really didn't want to do the engine anytime soon. The brief times that it has actually revved, it sounded very good, and doesn't leak.

Dr. Zimmerman, did you ever reach Kevin Moulineau? He had a ton of those parts for sale. He works for that famous Porsche restorer/ racer/ fab guy in Scotts Valley, Ca.

Took some time to find it, but I'm sending you a link to his personal info. I can probably find his cell # if you want me to. He was a local wrench owner of an indy shop here. He and his wife divorced, and he moved to his current job. I helped them move their tools and stuff into moving vans on their last day here in town. It was sort of sad for us, but I imagine not too bad for him. Anyway, he had a ton of old stuff including 914 stuff in storage.
