Default engine builders

I own a '73 914. Am looking to upgrade engine. I found a company online called import motors. They are at importmotor.com. Their engines look good on paper. I was wondering if anybody has heard of them? What is their reputation? Any input good or bad would be great.
Thx Tom

Never heard of them. What kind of motor are you going for? Where are you located?

I would bring the car to Mark Nadler @ Exotech in NH. I know it might be a little of a drive for you, but it will be worth it. He is amazing!

A jake Raby engine is nice.. Do a web search for his sites. It seems like he is limiting his 914 motor selections as he is now focusing on the boxster/996 motors.

Wasn't there also a guy in California who was bulding out the "$5k" motor uising Raby supplied kits? iirc, 125ish hp though I cant recall if they were carbed or FI either.

914 world / 914 club websites should be searched.

I had a motor built about 10+ years ago by Keith Peare at PowerTech in Rockaway NJ. Carbed.. 2056 motor.. about 120hp. It lasted me for 25k miles (5 years) of track/de/ax use before I sold the car. His shop also built a bunch of "2.4" and "2.7"l 4-cylinder motors back in the 1990s. Keith is still a 914 guy (and a VW guy before that), so perhaps they are still willing to build some out.

Gennedy (GT Performance?) outside of Baltimore is another guy who likes the old aircooled motors. I know guys with hot 914s that use him, but I have no personal experience.

John Forbes at Black Forest Garage (formerly Black Forest Racing) builds very nice, strong motors. Been a 914 guy forever - raced them when they were still factory new. Does all my engine work here in the Charlotte area. Not close to Delaware, but good work and very reasonably priced.

I'm at the shop fairly often (keep doing little things to the 2 914's, and they let me use one of their lifts).
