Ok, so I got me a new set of rear wheel bearings, put them in the trailing arm, put the hub in. Then when the hub didn't go in all the way I was wondering about what that was all about. So I had to remove the hub (of course trashing the bearing) and I decided that those bearing will not fit with that hub. This is because the bearings inner races are both the same exact diameter. When I went to check the hub it, one race needs to be larger than the other. And the old bearing had just that. I don't know if I got a wrong bearing, or just a weird hub. If anyone can put a picture of a 914-4 hub, that would be very helpful.

You have a weird hub and bearing in there. I just did a hub/control arm swap and they were both straight, not stepped. The hubs were all the same for 914/4's and the bearings fit early 911, 912 and all 914/4 & 6 (all straight).
