Post "Big bore" p/c's??

Hi, gang - I may rebuild a 1.8 engine in the near future. Can I replace the p/c's with 2.0, for a big bore type fit?Also, is there an advantage of Weber carbs over the stock f.i.?

I believe there are issues involved when using 2.0L P&C's in 1.8L heads, but for sure these individuals will steer you straight.

Bill, you cannot use 2.0L pistons with the 1.8L crank and rods, thay have different stroke. The 1.7 and 1.8L engines use a 66mm stroke and the 2.0L uses a 71mm stroke.

You can buy 96mm big bore pistons for a 1.8L stroke. There are piston and cylinder kits available, but the quality of the cylinders is poor. Your best option is to buy the JE 96mm pistons and then have your factory 1.8L cylinders bored out from 93mm to 96mm. This will give you a 1911cc engine.

<a href="http://www.aircooled.net" target="_blank">www.aircooled.net</a> has the pistons and any good machine shop or RIMCO can bore and hone your cylinders.

Your other option would be to get a 2.0L crank and rods for you engine, they drop right in, and then use stock 2.0L pistons and cylinders. The 1.8L heads will bolt on as well.
