identification of gearbox
Hi
Just obtained a 912 project. It has a VW engine but I am not sure about the gearbox. A picture is attached. Can someone tell me whether its a 902 box or not from the pic.

great. thanks . Yes early car 1966. Bought sight unseen in LA and shipped out here to the wilds. Pakistan of all places. Will post the resto thread soon. Needed the info.. if I will be shifting to an original engine.... or maybe I will keep the VW and have a stroker engine. Need power to keep up with my 911 targa

Those Lobro axles will need new U-joints before you drive it too much. They were pretty well known for failing if not greased regularly. these look like its been a few years since that saw grease. They are pretty easy to disassemble, clean inspect, lubricate and then reassemble. An average machinist in Pakistan will know how. He can inspect and measure them and rebuild them. Just look for flattened needle bearings and grooves in the outer bearing surfaces.
