So I am noticing cracks in my alternator belt--time for a change. Do I need to purchase new shims or is it ok to use the ones on there? This job seems to be an easy DIY--anything else to take note of before beginning?

there are 10 shims. you put them on to space the belt tight, then put the extras outside the aft pulley half. If it get loose ina few years remove a ship between the pulley half's. Hold the fromt half with the straight slot screwdriver in the tool kit, against the screw behind the front half.

Pretty simple this is a VW but its the same
