Default Nasty 912 on CL, worth it?

Hello!

I've found a highly unusual, rustbucket 912 on my local craiglist and was wondering if the denizens of Rennlist think it's worth bothering with it.

http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/cto/5502232351.html

Some things to note, if you can look past the terrible spelling:

1. The engine appears to be ripped from a VW Beetle
2. The price dropped by 30% last week
3. He calls it "euro spec" and "widebody". Are those actual factory options on the 912?

Is this interesting, or just someone's trashed project that he's looking to pass off? If the former, what would you pay for something this messy?

That is so far from original that it is not even funny... And 10K??!!!!

No engine
Metal converted from long nose to the newer cars
Rust
In one photo you can see that during the last paint job, lots of bonds was used...
Interior is shot! Need new everything there as well...

If you really want a project....unless you are the one selling it....

I am not the one selling it, thank god. I was thinking about offering scrap prices for it; this guy clearly didnt do research beyond "Porsche = expensive".

I figure if its not 50% bondo, it would be a good learning experience to get it moving again, and to do a lot some low-risk bodywork practice on.

This was a is a "912 Frankenporsche" from the early eighties, when a slightly rusty 912 could be had for $2-3K and could be made to look like the latest and greatest "Whale Tail" - kind of, sort of.

Unfortunately, several unwilling 912's fell victim to this fate. I was young and foolish back then and I also considered taking my 912 down that dreadful path but, well, I made a few of those minor mistakes but nothing that drastic, thank god. The Porsche gods frowned on me so severely that my 912 has been in storage for more than 30 years waiting for a proper resurrection. Now that I am much older, and hopefully wiser, I am beginning the process. Look for my resurrection thread to begin soon.

LOLz. G-bodied rear fenders grafted onto a short wheelbase car where they failed to align the Arch to the wheel. How many poor cars did this happen to? I remember at least three now. Impact bumpers too. Offer them $500 and hope the tail and headlights are good.
