this is my first project car. i've been tinkering around with pcars since high school but just recently got back in to them.

i have an 89 cab that is bone stock and i really wanted something i can play with. i didnt want a resto (to stock) project but instead a hotrod or outlaw toy.

i found a 68 912 that was recently converted to a 912/6 and bought it. the PO wanted to keep the motor so i got it as a roller. it's not running yet but here's a snapshot of my project so far...

meanwhile i started looking for a motor and found this from a fellow pelican...

a hotrod isn't a hotrod until it's got carbs...

that's it for now. i'm waiting for a few more things to come in (tires, exhaust, etc.) here we are patiently waiting for the brown truck...

I'm jealous for sure. That's exactly what I want to do with my 69. I'm all set up. Just need a motor when I can afford one. Looks great!

sierra madre collection for the porsche and the pegasus ones. about $100 and i think $9. the gulf ones i got from ebay.

the steelies are 5.5's and the tires are 195/65-15 barums. im not selling them yet cause i want to see how i like the fuchs reps.

i wasn't sure if it was going to fit inside the rear well since it's got a hell of rim protector bead but it does...

Do you mind divulging how much you have invested in the motor and oil tank without the transaxle? I'm looking for a motor but I know my budget is way out in comparison to your motor. I spoke with Dave Buhain (Road and Race) over the weekend at bagels and coffee. He is obviously waaaay to expensive for me quoting me 17,500.00 to 24,000.00. I'm sure that is for a road and weekend track motor. I just want a nice plug and play with carbs. I'm not gonna ascertain a motor then do a total rebuild.

you can save a bunch if you do the work yourself. a motor is about 5k, carbs will run you anywhere between 3-4k. depending on what you end up doing when you "rebuild" that will add to the cost (new ignition, distributor, cams, tuning etc). all in i think i'm somewhere around 12k for the motor but then again i stopped counting

the oil tank was already modded for me since this 912 already had a 911 motor in it.

I'm probably gonna have to wait for a motor that runs and then do a little at a time. Motor, tin, carbs, and ignition complete. I'm sure it will be a T but would prefer an E. If you see something at all PM me please. What kind of HP will that put out? 175?

Use those spring plates and lower the rear an inch and the front has the height adjusters. Those are excellent tires. A also have 205/55's

So now I need to figure out when finally start digging into my 912 do I go more stock or hotrod... Between you and Wachuko I am torn....I am so confused!

btw....I too have some repro Fuchs that I will get tires for once I see a SWB car with the same offsets. Your wheels look a bit deep and I think they do stick out a bit beyond my liking for a SWB but that is purely a taste thing. Would you mind sharing the wheel width and offset? From everything I read, people seem to indicate 195 is the widest but I sure like the beefier look of the 205s.
