original 912 tyres
#3
I wondered which brand and tread of tyre?
I wondered if the fitted the Pirelli Cinturato that has just been re produced http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/page...rato-ca67.html
I wouldn't be suprised if the 912 fitted Michelin XAS which is a fantastic tyre.
Also do people fit 185/70VR15 to the 912 as early 911 did?

I believe Pirelli Cinturato, Semperit, Continental, Dunlop and Michelin X were all fitted. I have no personal experience with 912 but those were fitted on new 914's in 1970. You received whatever tire came on your car. Some buyers asked for a certain tire and the dealer would switch them from one car to another.
Certainly the 185/70's have been fitted to 912's but not as original equipment. Your reproduced Pirellis would be the closest tire to OE available today. Coker has a reproduced Michelin XZX, but that is a newer version than available on early 912's (Michelin X).

Thank You Mr Micheal B that is great.
This is the 165HR15 CA67 that Pirelli are making at present. https://www.borrani.com/en/165hr15-p...cinturato.html
(it is actually a picture of the 14" tyre but they look the same)

The Cinturato web site is almost up to speed now 165HR15 Cinturato CA67
Some 912 drivers like to fit wider tyres. and Pirelli are now also making the Cinturato CN36 185/70VR15 that 911 fitted from 1969

I just purchased a 1969 912 which came with its original 5 1/2 14 Fuch wheels. The COA lists the tires as 185 HR 14. I'm trying to decide if I should have these 14" weeks restored and put them back on the car but need some advice. First I believe these 14" wheels were considered a "comfort Package" option and I was wondering how they affected handling. And second if I keep them what are my best options for tires. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi
It depends what you want.
15" wheels with 165R15 tyres will be more precise and turn in very quickly and be the most fun and progressive. 165HR15 Michelin XAS or 165HR15 Cinturato CA67 are the best Cinturato for sporty progressive handling and XAS for directionals stability.
Fitting 185R14 willl give you a more comfortable ride. I would go for the 185HR14 Michelin MXV-P It has got the best carcass, so the handling would stay good.
