engine decoding help

can someone please help me decode this engine, its in a 1966 912 , has one carb, engine code is AM026600, is this a vw motor? any help would be much appreciated

Yes it is (VW). It would have two carbs (Ports) and the vin would not begin with a letter be six digits only. I believe a 66 would start with an 8.
