New to the 912 site. I have recently decided to start looking for a 912 to restore. Checking out the site for info on the 912 and what to look for. Currently have a 914.

NUMBERS
Chassis serial number can be found in three places: driver's forward door post (placard), front latch panel (placard) and dash behind the knee pad (stamped into dash, knee pad must be removed to see).

NOTES
Check everything: chassis, body (especially the rocker panels under the doors). Also a #2 Philips head screwdriver: tap panels with the handle as fiberglass and metal have distinctive sounds. If a chassis panel sounds 'thin' (again distinctive), 'poke' it with the blade. A thin, rusty panel is easily penetrated. Suspension pan, chassis areas under rear torsion bar outer mounts, 'package shelf' and rear seat pans are subject to rust from the interior side.
Take a good magnet to test areas for bondo, a thin pointed screwdriver to check for rusted areas, LED light, camera, meter...
