Start Up for 68 912
We have a 68 912 that's been in the family since 1978. My father had an engine tear down and rebuild shortly before he mothballed the car (around 10,000 miles on rebuild). The car has not been started for the last 15 yrs. Unfortunately, fluids were not changed or drained during the non-operation period. So, what items need immediate attention before a start up?
This is a great project I've had in mind now that i have some time--some great bonding time for the two of us. Any input is greatly appreciated--cheers!!

Aircooled engine. No need to worry about much of the engine internals...
Fuel and fuel lines are another thing. I would empty the gas tank, remove it and have it cleaned. Replace all rubber fuel lines. Carburetors will need to be cleaned.
Change the oil and filter.
Put new gas filter.
Remove spark plugs and put a little bit of oil in each plug hole. With the spark plugs still out of the engine, put the car in neutral, and turn the engine to see if it spins...
Check ground strap to make sure it is clean and making good contact.
Put new battery, fresh gas, and start it up!
Others will chime in...

Just follow the negative cable on the battery... check where it attaches to the car. Just check that it has good contact and it is not loose
And there is another one under the car, between engine and transmission... but I would not worry about that one now.
