Forgot to mentioned this yesterday. Koni orange spray cans arrived... this is for painting the front struts to match the color of the rear Koni shocks.

More parts cleaned. These cleaned out excellent. Not sure if it was because of all the grease they were covered with. Now that they are cleaned, should I coat them with some black paint? Or will they stay fine without paint?

You know... They are fine unpainted, but I would say with them dismantled that far to put a coat of color on them too. That is at least how I would do it & I get the impression you are as car twisted as I am.

just went through the entire thread so far. love all the pics and work you are going through. a rebuild for the normal garage guy! my style all the way. this thing will be so much fun when you are done, but Im sure you know you have a LONG way to go. Curious why you got a car from the PNW when you live in FL? much drier climate would've given you a lot less rust to deal with. Ive been looking for a 912 and I want one from CA so I would have minimal rust to deal with, because they ALL have some rust, the less you deal with the better. Either way, keep it up!!

It was a local purchase. Previous owner had moved recently. I had been looking for one for a long time... And for whatever reason I was not lucky enough to find an amazing car for 1,500.00 . All that I could find were cars in a bad condition and people wanting top dollar for them. So, at the time, this one looked great. I was not expecting to have to spend so much on the engine...but that is another story. Just thankful that Peter gave me that case...

Jaime, I think I saw an entire row of 912 engines today. They were either that or 356 engines...either way, I'm here to help, with whatever I can now that I've been made aware of what you are up to.

Thank you for the offer. I am going to go tomorrow to a local shop (Troy Motorsports) and talk to Sid. Taking the case with me to see if they can fix it locally. That is currently the most important task right now. Followed by buying a crankshaft.

AA is out of budget conscious piston and cylinder kits...so I have to wait on those. But no hurry on those until the core components are done...

Found a company that does chrome plating locally, I will try to use my lunch break to stop by and see if they can do the horn ring.

Horn leather came in today. Also got a callback from the local plating shop saying that they can chrome the ring.

Cool

Cleaned the case... removed the studs for the sump cover (a few were missing, one was longer, and new studs are coming anyway), took it apart to clean the inside, sprayed WD-40 in all holes to make sure there was no dirt in the oil passages... Put it back together and back in the stand...

Rear wheel spacers came in (see previous post), got them cleaned and tested... studs are long enough, so all good to go.

Replaced the bleeder valves on the calipers

Also finished cleaning all the brake parts...

Grease, rubber boots, and bearing packing tool came in so I am going to rebuild now the drive shafts and put them aside for when it is time to install them...

Replaced the seals on the rear brake covers

Also got the carpet out... I am going to try to make that part myself... some sheet metal, some wood to use as template, a BFH....worst case scenario, I can always take it to someone to fix it...

I would recommend coating the inside of the tub with POR-15 after the rust repair is completed.

I will add POR-15 to the list of items to buy. Thanks!

Seat bottoms, rear parcel shelf, front half floor pan (this one I ordered already), and right outer rocker panel need to be replace/repaired.

A few more photos of finished parts...

Front calipers

Rear stuff

Cleaned, degreased, and resprayed the rear wheel well... When the car goes for a respray, I will remove everything again, but for now I want this to looks good and be clean and protected.

Also got a parts cleaner on special... not bad for 76.00
