If you want to sell the wheels at a reasonable price, along with the hub caps, I will take them. My car, also a '67 built in 10/66 doesn't have its original wheels. Getting a set with the right dates would interest me.

I wouldn't worry too much about the 4spd gearbox. I personally like the H,Q,X 2,3,4 and first is so much easier to engage on the 4spd than the dog leg first. However, if you must have a 5spd, a 5spd mainshaft will go right into your exisiting case, and the stockish ratios are pretty easy to come up with for reasonable money. The expensive part will be the 5/R slider. These days those run over $600 new and good used ones are rare.

But if you wanted to trade some gears for your wheels, send me a pm and we can talk. Owning or having owned 10 early 911s, 912s and 914s has left me with a pretty big pile of 901 trinkets in my garage.

Thanks....i probably going to to stick with the 4 speed for exactly the reason you state...more natural pattern for me. Once I find some Fuchs at reasonable price I will certainly let you have ROFR on wheels. I need a whole bunch of stuff for the car including seats, dash,etc....

I'll pm you when I have chance with specifics

I just last week pulled a set of 4 original 4.5x15 Fuchs off my 1967 912 racecar and replaced them with 6x15 repros. Make me an offer.

I didn't know that there were 4.5 Fuch's available. Do you have pics on what that looked like on the car.... I think I prefer 5.5s or 6 but PM what you would want for them. Also, where did you get the repros and what did it run you? I really like the look of that size. Pics of the 6X15 on the car would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

Good for you. Bad for us. Had that been a 911 it would have fetched 25K. The 912 gets absolutely no respect as far as value and that's just asinine!

Completely agree....the worst part is it will cost the same to restore. However, I don't plan on selling unless I can't get the engine going and then I think I will think about next steps. To keep it low budget I may black out all the chrome rather than rechrome and long term I may change the color to Chartreuse green, yellow, red, or tangerine. Since it is a 912, I don't mind deviating from the original and doing my own thing...I see that as an advantage.

However, first things first, I need to see if I can get the car started since it hasn't turned over since about 1997.

Guys,

Sorry I went dark for awhile on my 912 but soon after I got this car we move to a new home and then I got a concussion and separated shoulder and bought a targa....long story. Anyway, I this fall I did spend some time with the 912. A friend got the car going and now I have a total of about $3 grand into the car. Spend a ton of time cleaning it up and thought I would share with you the last picture I took before putting it in storage until I build my new garage to store my cars. I was amazed to find that I pretty much was able to restore all of the chrome and polished the paint. The results are really amazing.

Subscribed. 1,500.00 !!! good grief... that was indeed a great deal. And I know you like fuchs... me too, but those steel wheels with hub caps just look so right on this car... I do not have plans to change mine.

I still can believe it... 1,500!!!

Well I have about 3000 into it now which includes a new seat, new brake lines, new oil tank, new fuel lines, oil/filter, spark plugs and a bunch of other stuff. I also bought a set of Fuchs 5.5 repros for an additional $1000. I am planning on keeping the steelies though so I can swap depending on my mood.

The car was working fine until I put it in storage and I can't start anymore. One of my first projects when I bring it home with be carb rebuild (I'll polish up the aircleaner like you did) and also no master cylinder. Also, will look can fixing the couplers for the shifting mechanisms. That should get it drivable again.

While I had it running the car was a blast to drive even though I had to pump brakes and usually had no idea what gear I was in.
More fun than any of my other 3 911s....

Thumbs up

I say this with the utmost respect, so please do not get offended. SHUT UP!!

I paid 8.2K for mine.... interior needs to be redone, a few rusted areas, needs a complete paint job, and you can see what I found on the engine... :bang head:

You found a gem for 3K after all you have done... :reckon: Happy to read that you are keeping the steelies.

Keep us posted on the work done.
