912 Rendezvous: Aug 1-3 in Solvang, Ca.
here (at the bottom) is an email update i recieved tonight from the 912 registry, about the upcoming event! all porsche owners, most importantly 912 owners and enthusiests are encouracged to come out, view all the great 912's, take part in the drives, and to find out more about these great cars. its kinda like the 944 fest, in the same respects that all porsche owners are welcomed, but only the 912 will be featured, so as not to take away from our special weekend. members of 356 clubs and 911 clubs are both begging to come to the event!!!!
excellence magazine, and 9 magazine will be there to cover the event. this is going to be huge!!!!
we have 912ers coming from everywhere. california, washington, idaho, tennisee, virginia, ohio <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> , and even from across the pond, way out there in belgium and the netherlands.. this one is going to be EPIC!! so far, as of june 21, we have 74 912 registered..
anyways, here is the letter i got...
</font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Helvetica">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana,Tahoma,Helvetica"> To all 912 Owners and enthusiasts,
This year's 2nd Annual 912 Rendezvous will be here soon, July 31 - August 3,
2003 in Solvang, California. The Rendezvous has become the focal point of
the year for 912 events! If you have monitored the web site lately you
will have noticed information and a schedule of the exciting activities
planned for this year's Rendezvous. Tours, car show, winery BBQ, tech
section, swap meet, more. If you haven't looked yet, click on
<a href="http://www.912rendezvous.org/event_schedule.htm." target="_blank">http://www.912rendezvous.org/event_schedule.htm.</a>
About one of this years exciting new events, the Car Show. The City of
Solvang is working with us to close off a street in downtown for a display
of these fine vintage vehicles. As a thank you, we will be charging a
nominal entry fee ($10) which will be donated to a local charity. So bring
your car out and show it off! It does not matter what condition it is in.
This is not a concours, although we will have "Peoples Choice" judging but
with classes that will award the good, bad and the ugly (wait a
minute...there are no "ugly 912's"...scratch that class).
If you haven't already registered, we are accepting payment via credit card
and mail-in check (early-bird registration through the end of June). Go to
the 912 Rendezvous web site ( <a href="http://www.912rendezvous.org)" target="_blank">www.912rendezvous.org)</a> and proceed to the
Registration page where you can jump immediately to the Payment page. Or if
you are ready to pay this very minute then you can proceed direct from here:
Don't forget to book your hotel!! We have booked blocks of rooms at the
Days Inn Buellton. Mention that you are with the 912 Porsche club to
receive our special rate. Book NOW! Club rate $71.99 - be sure to ask (912
Porsche club)! (And book early, there are a limited number of rooms at this
rate).
Looking forward to the best event of 2003!

I used to live there. It's about 2 hours to Santa Barbara and another 1 to Solvang. Once you escape LA it's a beautiful drive right along the Pacific Ocean.

RJT 993,
Thanks for the info but i doubt my pregnant wife would enjoy a 2-3 hour ride for a Porsche event on our vacation/family visit.

Dan, No disrespect bro..... but it's 175 miles from Huntington Beach to Solvang! If you can do this entire trip in 2hours, you must be averaging 87.5 miles an hour. Don't know when the last time you were in LA traffic but you can't drive 87.5 even at 3 in the morning! It used to take me a hour and a half from San Pedro to Beverly hills every day and that's only 27 miles. That's why we are in Arkansas now!!

i have a 1968 912 , white and black.
The car original came from california and the engine was rebuilt and staged up. (almost 0 rust)
i purchased the car from a family during a bearevement (they called me)
Just toooo good of a deal to pass up even though the wife didnot approve. She thought i would be porsche-less for years after my marriage but only lasted about 2 weeks.
I do miss my other porsches though

RJT No offense taken. Like I said your times and milage may vary. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> But I avtually have made that run early this year (SB 2 HB) in about 1h40m in the 71. Didnt seem like I was going all that fast. Maybe its time to get the speedo fixed.
