Could one of you fine folks tell me what your RPM's are at 70mph with a 5 speed car? Give or take, doesn't need to be spot on. Thanks, Mike

'VOR' you must work Mercedes!! Maybe other OEMs or dealers use that as well. I just remember MB used that term in the same way aircraft are referred to as 'AOG' when busted.

My car seems to rev like an SOB, it's no hwy cruiser, that's for sure. At 6k in 5th I'm at 108 mph according to my GPS. Running 14" fuchs and 60 series tires.

Mike, glad to help & thanks - I've been called alot worse than "really somethin". I happen to have gotten the original manual w/ my '66 912 (from the owner who had the car since about '68), so it was no big deal. I have amassed a fairly good library of Porsche (& others) resources & enjoy research & comparing conflicting sources to extract the facts - if it's a field that I've interest in.
Butzi, I sold BMWs & Volvos for a few years (many yrs ago), maybe that's where I picked up th lingo. I also owned many Alfas, so VOR was SOP. My Benz (300TE) needs only routine maint @ 162k mi.
6000 in 5th is 117mph on the chart (I'd post a photo but my Canon just failed & is on its way to repair). Your mounted tires are probably "shorter" than the oem spec - the quick & dirty way to a lower, quicker car. If you calculate the % difference in rolling radius between the two, it should be about the same % as the difference in speed (of course, a different final drive ratio would also account).
I carry a copy of the gear chart in each of my cars - just for fun & mental exercise on long trips.
cheers!
