Default Limited-slip differential - how many discs should it be?

My gearbox will be rebuilded in next 3 weeks (synchros, shift sleeve). My shop asked do I want to encrease amount of the inner discs (now there are 2 inner discs) for better driving.
The car is daily driver and very very rare trackdays.

What do you think?

And also how many inner discs should be in stock Limited-slip differential? Maybe previous owners changed it.

Thank you.

Sergey

Depends on how your shop is referring to it. I always refer to total number of clutches. Some refer to how many per side.

Originally, factory ZF lsds were assembled as steel, clutch, clutch, steel, bell washer. That is one side and is effectively 2 clutches for the whole unit. For performance you can retune it as clutch, steel, clutch, steel, bell washer. If you don't track it, you can leave the original configuration.

GTgears
Thank you!
Could you please help me to understand this with part numbers?

Do you mean that original configuration is:
disc with external splines (1,9 or 2,0 mm) - 91733255210 or 91733255211?
inner disc 2,0 mm - 92833255100
inner disc 2,0 mm - 92833255100
disc with external splines (1,9 or 2,0 mm) - 91733255210 or 91733255211?
thrust washer - 90133256111

And if I retune LSD as clutch, steel, clutch, steel, bell washer - what changes in street driving (not track)?

I have another car for trackdays.
As for me Porsche 930 is too expensive to repair and that's why it is daily driver (maybe just 2 or 3 trackdays a year).

In my LSD there is only one inner disc (clutch) per each side (in total 2 inner discs in LSD). Is it normal?

As I see on this picture stock LSD must have 2 inner discs (clutches) per each side. Am I right?

Yes,inners are clutches. Only 1per side means someone just wanted to save a few bucks on the previous rebuild. Same effective lock as stock.

Do you mean that my LSD (with only 2 cluches) is the same effective as the stock LSD with 4 clutches?

Yes, when configured like in the drawing you posted (how I initially described). When you put a pair of clutches against each other you are reducing the number of effective faces.

However, if it does have just 1 clutch per side it should have an extra steel plate to make up the extra gap and keep the stack height correct.

That's a pretty complex part. You must have a really very good machine shop!
