We have a 1990 911 Cabriolet in the shop currently for interior and top work. We got the repairs done so the top functions, but it wants to slam shut after it crosses dead center on the way closed. I thought I had seen a thread that addressed this back in May when we had another Cabriolet in for some work, but cannot find it now. Seems like it had to do w/washer placement on the arm that attaches to the gear box.

That sounds like a mechanical issue.
