In Search of 88 Commemorative Edition Carrera
Update: still looking. Please respond if you know of one. Thanks in advance.
If anyone knows of any for sale please forward my way. I'm looking to buy the car that gave me the passion for Porsche that I currently have. My father bought an 88 Commemorative edition new and sold it in 1994. If somehow I could find that exact one would be amazing. I believe the car went to TX from Knoxville, TN. Anyway. Pictures and or listings or contact info for someone who might have one would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jon

I have one and I won 2nd place at last summer's Colorado Concours. However, I won't be parting with it anytime soon.
But you're in luck - there's one that just recently came up for sale that i have personally seen, and it is slightly cleaner than mine. It's at Poudre Sports Car in Ft. Collins, CO. I've been watching the CE market for the last 4 years closely, and I don't believe you'll find one better. I can't seem to be able to post a link, so just go to Poudre Sports Car's Facebook page. The car is not listed on their web site yet.

Mine was originally purchased in Ohio and then moved to Pennsylvania in 2011. I bought it in 2013 and brought it to Colorado. I do know that the car for sale at Poudre has been in Colorado since at least the early 90's. The car's owner and I are in the Rocky Mountain region of PCA.

Asking price is a little steep but looks like a nice example.

see if there is a registry
contact PCA - you may need to join
write letters to various state DMVs - you will not get owner names or addresses but can get cities and some DMVs will take a letter you write to the new owner and send it to them

A cabriolet fitting that description may have shed it's original wheels and I purchased them off of a listing in Panorama about 8 years ago.
The car was being sold to a broker who had a buyer in Europe, and it went to him with a second set of chromed FUCHS. The selling owner of the cab, KEPT the original wheels and put them into storage for a few years, became divorced and sold all his Porsche collections of parts, cars, magazines, clothes to settle proceedings. The wheels went on sale and I have them on one of my Porsches.
If you can tell me the approximate mileage of your Dad's car, I can verify. I know the exact date codes as well of both the car and wheels. Curiously I received a call from the new owner wishing to buy those original wheels and return them to the car..... I have his contact info.
It was a cabriolet with the pleated or loose leather facings on the seats and door cards. The special blue of the Commemorative/ Jubilee cars with color matched FUCHS. Sound familiar ?
Was your Dad's car indeed a Coupe or was it a Cabriolet ?

As well, not in favor of the 17 inch Braid wheels, but he does have the originals.
The price ? Well..... the really great cars in the most very rare colors are going thru the roof. I have a low mile '88 in Venetian with seldom optioned black interior ( most Venetians were dark blue or ivory/linen inside ), and you would not believe some of the offers I've had on it. (not for sale, never has been..... these are 'walk-ups' @ Porsche events.)
There is the confirmed sale of a Summer Yellow '88 Carrera which went to Europe for over 100,000.
These Jubilee/Commemorative cars are a very desired pkg. with a very unique look and style. Few came to America; if it were mine I would ask the moon.
But better yet: keep and enjoy !

Yes, it's a lot of money but only 875 were made worldwide, with 300 of them coming to N. America, and 120 of those were coupes. I've seen maybe a dozen for sale over the last 4 years, and none of them were as nice as this one. I inspected it in person. So take a solid condition 2+ G50 Carrera, add 10% for the extra low miles and another 10-15% for being a special model, and you get close enough to the asking price that a standard negotiation should seal the deal. There is a buyer at this price level. It's just a matter of time.

It is a beautiful car. It's a little out of my budget for one. I'm all for a coupe or a targa but I'm not a cab person. Thanks for the help guys.

Agree this price at this mileage and a special model is in range. If a compression test passes, this car is actually a decent buy in the low 70s with both sets of wheels. Assuming as good condition as claimed, don't pass up a good car.
