1982 SC sunroof coupe value?
Hi all,
Its been awhile since I've logged onto RL- busy with kids, work, life...
I had been looking for a mid/late 80's 911 for some time but then decided to hold off as the prices just kept climbing and I did not want to pay that kind of $ for a car that I was not fully sure I would enjoy as I have never owned anything like that before.
While I was not looking, it turns out that a local Indy shop bought a client's 82 SC as he no longer drove it as much and now is looking to flip it. The shop has done some repairs/updating etc as needed.
Below are the particulars and I would appreciate the collective wisdom of RL on its value or any red flags:
1982 SC sunroof coupe with 113k miles but there is a possible mileage discrepancy. No history of any major engine work.
Prior owner bought it from a local non Porsche car lot approx 2010 and he did not have any records/papers/repair paperwork etc. He has only taken it to the current Indy shop for its servicing and I do have those records which only include work from 2010 and 2016. Leakdown testing done in 2010 shows 4%, 0, 0, 0, 0, 4%.
AC compressor in place but not hooked up.
Interior: decent shape, good headliner, sunroof works well, dash has 2-3 cracks but no warpage, seats in good shape, aftermarket stereo and rear speakers, Momo wheel.
Exterior: no obvious rust to visible eye, I could not see any underneath either to my untrained eye, has factory turbo spoiler.
I took it for a spin and it seems OK but then again, I can count on my hand the # of times I have driven a 911 from the 80s.
If there are no major red flags, then I plan to take it to a different Indy shop for a PPI.
Any thoughts on the above and what you all feel is reasonable value?
Hagerty lists this as $16k for condition 4 and $28.5k for condition 3. My gut says its about a 3.5 condition.
thanks and Happy New Year.

Sounds like you'll be in good shape in the lower $20s for solid driver with no records. Spend the money on a through PPI (probably run you $350-$500). Look out for broken head studs and make sure to upgrade to a pop-off valve for the airbox and oil-fed timing chain tensioners if not installed already. Best of luck!
What color is it?

Thanks for reply. Car is black on black. Not what I would have preferred but then again I guess I can't be too choosy.
It does have the newer chain tensioners but not sure whether it has the updated air box or simply a pop off valve added on.

I have purchased and sold three 911's in the last four years - 77-80 and a few 914's, don't ask. Currently have a 79 ROW SC, purchased last month. Read the Hagerty condition description again. That car sounds like a solid number 3 and should be priced in the high 20's.
Good luck and enjoy.

IMO under $30k would be a great deal for an SC coupe in decent condition with those miles.
Repairing the dash professionally will run around $1500 to do it correctly- I priced it for a 1984 in the Philly area about a year ago.
It might need a top end rebuild sooner than later.
Good luck.

thanks for the insight guys-
he is asking 32k and would'nt take my offer of 26.
I reasoned that it would be 2.5k for new AC system, 1.5k for dash and 500 for new tires that are needed.
well I guess I have some thinking to do this weekend as to what I want to spend...
there is an 86 Targa on BAT that looks interesting.
