Rare vlk 911 '84 - worth bidding?
Came across this very rare (what appears ) genuine low klm '84 911 for auction in EU...
https://www.vavato.com/en/#!/auction...40c29f/lots/14
says 'not running' due to gearbox or clutch... any clues what may have failed on this before I commit? Even if I have to spend some $$ getting it going, I can only find one or two others for sale like it with this low klm on it, and worth considerably more running!
Thanks!

The engine and the odometer tell wildly differing stories. I'd believe the engine long before anything else. Parts are missing....parts are rusted..... aftermarket seats...
That car was subjected to a long slow salty death a very long time ago. I'd run far away and fast.

true it may have lived (been stored) near the sea... but mild corrosion on engine parts is not unusual, and I think for its age it appears quite ok. My Parents once owned a BMW 325i and only drove it 15K klm in 3yrs, but since they lived very near the sea, even parts of the engine bay were showing signs of superficial corrosion.
I am deducting that the seats were replaced so this car was used as a track car... could explain the aftermarket distributor. Then looking at the plastics under the hood, and the spoiler, and the paint... it clearly has not seen the sun very much in its lifetime so far.
To me it looks a bit like a barn find... was probably parked up when the clutch/gearbox failed, and not touched since.
So back on my question... any ideas why there may be no drive?

Well.....in addition to all the wheel arch rock chip and track modification you noted and the add disclosing the bad tranny/clutch perhaps it has a bad tranny because someone missed a shift and floated and bent a valve or two? Never know.

OK, I guess words mean different things to different people. I must have misunderstood that part. Let's hope it's just simple tranny troubles. ....and the distributor is stock, it's the magnacore wires that are not stock.

I guess what I am trying to get to the bottom of, is if anyone here has experienced any sort of drive failure on a similar age/model 911?

The car is worth about $20k u.s plus or minus.
It will want money thrown at it to get back on the road. Mechanical. interior. Cosmetic exterior.
A long as the tub is not rusty you could have a decent car once finished.
Money will add up quickly.
And the 17% plus 21% VAT!?

yeah, that is why American Porsches are imported here and maybe why this auction has one from Japan... probably worth nothing over there.
