Default loose steering wheel

Hello folks,

'88 Carrera, one owner, steering wheel seems to be loose. Any ideas?

The upper steering column bushing has probably disintegrated. The replacement is a relatively easy DIY. There are videos and instructions elsewhere on the forums. I did this a few months ago and it was straightforward. Maybe 15 minutes after you get all the tools together.

Tighten and loosen steering wheel away from windshield. also have someone counter hold wheel, don't tighten or loosen against steering lock.

Follow up- completed the repair and it was quite easy. Great opp to clean the gauge cluster with the steering wheel removed.

Note, elsewhere in the forum where the step by step instructions live it says to use a short length of 3/4 pvc sprinkler pipe to seat the bushing. However, 3/4 was too small so I would go larger....

And yes, put the bushing in the freezer overnight before you start!
