A 911SC ? What year is best ?

There is an ongoing debate on if the SC variants were super carreras (SC) as many say that was never designated in print but Porsche Classic references them as such http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessori.../911-g/911-sc/

Hello RL,
Once upon time a friend over heard a discussion about what is the best year to own in the 911SC realm. I always thought it would be last of the production run. To my surprise he said it is the early generation SCs. Sadly he cannot recall what was the reason for the early generation being most desirable.
I am hoping some one could shed some light.
I figure several RLers know the answer.
I certainly do not.

Realistically, there are faaaaaar too many variables for a car this old to worry about which "year" is the better SC. As you've already read here, condition, PPI, and what's available on the market trumps all.

I have a 79sc, black handles and trim, painted headlamp rings. It had to either be An option that year, or that it started half way through the production year. I have to check my production month again.

To the OP, yes, there are differences between SCs. I discuss these cars thoroughly in my book, The Used 911 Story, but sadly the 8th Edition is out of print, and the new, expanded 9th Edition is not yet ready to go to print. I strongly recommend that you find a used copy of the 8th Edition (Amazon.com), or wait for the 9th Edition to become available. As of today I can't give a date, but the new/revised text has been proofed and approved. I silently hope for Christmas '16, but my publisher might think otherwise; he is doing all he can to put a bow on the project!

SCs seem to be one of the best 911 values, but owning a 3.2 (Targa-nonmodified,stock) for a short time, dont eliminate that series from your search- the engine felt significantly more powerful and body style also timeless, and still a simple car with a true purely functional and kinda stark interior. Condition and previous owner(s) care important to a degree depending on your intentions with the car.
