Please help me understand the 3.2 market

shorter shift doesn't change physics; you simply move the fulcrum
if you get one, get only the Porsche kit
I'd blueprint the shift lever a la the info on Sherwood Lee's site; forgot the URL/name tho

I agree with the Porsche only kit, thanks for following up with that. I did get some good reviews at the track a few weeks ago to upgrade to a WEVO Gate though. So, someday I suppose.

There's no question the G50 is the more robust of the two transmissions.
The additional hp of the 87-89 is another plus.
And last but not the least, it's the final refinement of the G model.

I agree, especially since the value difference between a G50 and a 915 in otherwise identical spec cars is more like $5k. And for my money, after having owned two 86's and an '88, the extra money spent is well worth it because I enjoy the G50's more precise and positive-feel shifting over the 915. IMO it is a definite improvement without detracting from the driving experience one iota.
I don't hate the 915 when set up properly, but the G50 is something I prefer.

Yet another +1 for sugarwood's thoughtful post.
You gotta drive different ones & find out what you want & like. What you buy won't necessarily be what you thought you'd get at the start.
I learned to drive on my Mum's old Austin Mini which had a 4 speed box that, like the 915, had no self-centring in the 3-4 plane.
No-one complains today about those gearboxes. Yet somehow, everyone who drives one loves those old Minis and manages to change gear just fine.
915-haters are doing a favour to those of us who love it old skool :-)
