As stated above - fill to the bottom line on the dipstick with the engine running and warm. When very hot (230/240F) fill to the mid point on the dipstick. Never go above that. What that means is that on cooler days and shorter runs your oil level will not be much above the min and that is just fine.

Well, she goes! 915 gearbox is a bit different than any other car I've ever driven. Stoked to put some miles on this thing! Far different experience than my 951. Some fresh Brad Penn, Swepco 201, & shifter bushing and she's road worthy now!

The 915 is fine, just do not force it. A few comments I'm sure you are already aware of:

Make sure the clutch is good and takes up a couple inches above the floor. Always fully depress the clutch pedal when shifting (many people just feather it which is bad).

Do not power shift or shift in a quick single motion. Shift with a short pause passing through neutral. It is normal to find resistance as you engage the next synchro.

Do not downshift to 1st unless it's stopped or very slow (5MPH) almost stopping.

The 915 loves double clutching, especially downshifting to 2nd gear. The second gear synchro is typically tighter.

Slow down the car with brakes (which are up to the task) not the engine (downshifting).

Grabbed some photos before some rain yesterday. 2 coats of wax got this car looking new again.

Without a doubt this has to be the steal of the year.
If you have a Bentley start reading as these cars are easy to work on. If not get one.

Yupp. I'm having a hard time believing it's real still. These deals do exist out there! I ordered a Bentley last night.

Check out the Seine gate shift kit if you want the 915 to have spring tension on the 1-2 plane like a normal shifter. Easy mod to install yourself.

Fixed the tach issue today! I looked up a tach & saw the needle should sit at 0 when off. Mine sat about -800. This worried me since I never knew my actual RPM's or idle speed so I took it all apart today & properly aligned it to 0. Stoked to get all of these little bugs taken care of.

Tires are from 2011. They will be replaced this winter when the car is in storage. Any suggestions? I want to say the fuchs are 6x16/7x16 staggered. I'll probably only put 1k miles on the car this year. I have a beater A4 for a daily & on the weekends I juggle up my 951, motorcycle, & now this 911.

Man, what a great find and good story.

I love my Cayman but a 911 (ideally air cooled) has been on my radar and this type of story gives me hope that patience and luck will hook me up.

I liked my SO3s a lot - the SO4 does exist in a 16" size IIRC.

were new fuel & brakes hoses mentioned yet?

I honestly never thought something like this would happen to me! When it did it happened quick & was in my garage a few days after finding it. A cayman is definitely on a list of cars I would like to have one day! Modern Porsches are a completely different thing. Keep looking! They're out there!
