Just a thought. This is probably more for the moderators but I'll ask anyway. Every now and then, more often than not, there will be new threads started from either new owners with questions or new members looking to buy water cooled "911s", and without knowing, they post here in the "911" forum, and usually someone will comment "why don't you try the 996/997/991" forum. I understand that for those who don't know (and I blame marketing), it can be confusing why this isn't the right forum to ask about a "911" even though it clearly says 911. I feel we either need to change the name of this forum or go about some other way to make it apparent that this isn't the correct place to ask about a water-cooled "911". I know this 911 forum (as well as 964,993,etc) is already under an air-cooled group. Maybe people don't read I guess, and in that case there's no use. Any thoughts?

964 and 993 are also aircooled so it still be ambiguous. Maybe it could be changed to "3.2 and older 911"

we tried this several times in the past and for some reason the site Administrators refused to move on it each and every time

Of course the best way to do it would be to use year range . ( as believe it or not there are a large percentage of the population that have no clue what they drive as we have seen , they all think they drive 911s , and we all know the last 911 was built in 89.

you would still catch the odd crossover person as they made the C4 in small numbers and they are considered 89 for example , but still would be way better than it is today. I propose something like below ( not sure of the exact dates its just the format I am giving an example of )

911 ( 1964 - 1989)
964 ( 1990-1994 )
993 ( 1995-1998 )

id also like it to say " hey you 944 guys , go sell your crap on ebay and stop coming to our technical forum to do it " but I gues you cant have everything .

I would do year demarcations as the iceman says, no offense but there might be some of the new first time owners or seekers of late model P-cars that don't know there are air cooled and water cooled 911's

I would vote for 65-89 911, since 964 and 993 have their own forums.

Huh? For the past few weeks the misplaced posts have been an almost daily occurrence. There is a new one today. I don't think the name change would help though. They've already gotten by the "Air/Oil Cooled..." sub folder.

Yep....and the vast majority of "new" porsche owners don't even recognize an "old" 911. They don't connect the dots and certainly don't know that the old girls were air/oil cooled. They just see 911 and think that their new Porsche 997.2 is a 911. It ain't.

yeah I agree 100% , if they never stopped at air cooled they are not gonna stop at ( 65-89 ) , they might just think that is the average owners age group..
