Default A/C evaporator icing

I updated my 87 Carerra's a/c system a few years ago with a Retro Air package. It definitely makes cold air and I have seen center vent temperatures below 40 degrees. The evaporator seems to ice up if the car is shutdown for 30-60 minutes after extended use. I say this because upon restart the output air temperature is much higher than prior to shutdown and it does not seem to recover.

Can anyone offer any trouble shooting suggestions or likely causes for this condition?

Icing is usually a sign of refrigerant loss.

If you have good vent airflow it is not likely the evaporator is "iced" up.

Once the evaporator blower stops operating, no "extraction" of cooling BTU's, the evaporator might partially ice up but that should not remain for such a long period.

The systems works okay with longer shut down periods, say overnight..?
