Default Porsche

I am having trouble with valve lift setting. Camshaft number 14100 and 14200. Trying to figure out what the cam lift setting should be? Having conflicting information with books and mechanics!! Help, Please!

Set those cams to .80mm.

Steve, this is Marie... Thank you so very much for the engine camshaft setting plus the .80mm setting. That helped a lot! There were so many conflict with the manuals & mechanics. But you gave me the correct setting and all fell in place. Question: What's the Timing Chain Tension for this 911 1974 Porsche? Natural touch - small amount of flex or No flex at all?

I really don't want to derail the thread as well... Rick, I have a 42 year old Porsche but I run like 20 year old but I am a 70 years old and I have box full of tools but need a little help in rebuilding my 42 year old engine! The answer I was looking for was the proper Timing Chain Tension... I have mechanical adjusters and was hoping for a highly knowledgeable response! But I sincerely appreciated that complement!!
Sincerely,
Marie

Hi Marie,

Good news indeed,.......

Now,...I'm no fan of those mechanical tensioners since they accelerate wear on chains, idler sprockets, chain ramps, cam sprockets and intermediate shaft sprockets. This is due to compromise chain tension settings and precisely why Porsche elected to use hydraulic tensioning.

I would advise you to install the late Carrera pressurized tensioner system and late wide idlers. This is a very durable and reliable system that keeps the chain tension correct from cold-to-hot-to-cold again.

I know its not cheap to do, but its truly one of THE best engine upgrades one can do for any 2.2-3.0 engine.

Definitely switch to the Carrera tensioners. Much better system.
