3.2 Carrera Full Exhaust Suggestions
Hi all,
I know this has been brought up before. I've done some searching and seen some responses though not as many as I'd expect. I figured I'd bring it up again.
I have an 88 911 3.2 Carrera and I'm looking at doing a full exhaust (headers to tip). I'd like to keep heat and delete the cat (unless perhaps there are more modern freer flowing aftermarket options but I've seen none). I don't want anything crazy loud. I really like how stock is mostly engine noise rather than exhaust.
Some options I've seen:
SSI + M&K seems like a pretty popular option
Many thanks in advance!

I like my complete Fabspeed setup ... SSI's are nice but they are restrictive for a 3.2 engine due
to the 1.5 inch pipe OD whereas the Fabspeed setup has a 1.625 pipe OD which better suits a 3.2 engine.
Lots of reading regarding Fabspeed fit and so on ... mine fit like a glove right from the start !
You can really spend the bucks and get a custom Rarly system or get lucky and find
a used "S"Cargo setup,it all depends on the $$$ you want to spend.

i'm on similar path with my '87 3.2 Coupe, i'm taking it slow to listen to sound after each mod, i'm also a minimalist when it comes to mods, as we all know the cars are superbly great to begin with, so... i don't want to compromise the great sound of the air-cooled symphony, i have only done a FVD Brombacher cat bypass at this point in time. it's very nice, great low end sound, not tooth rattling, believe throttle response is improved but that's a subjective thing. next step is to consider sport muffler. Dansk is on my list, and Brombacher offers several, one is manufactured by Bursch

Heard SSI the best option (if heat is needed) on pre Carrera. Patrick Motorsports has some very good looking and quality mufflers that are period correct vs FS, FVD.
I used FS for full exhaust (including headers) on a 2003 C4S coupe and was very pleased with quality and service from them.
Good luck and have fun deciding.

If so did you choose sports cat? Also how loud is it? And did you keep heat?

I'm running the Fabspeed full header setup with no heat. I also had them make me custom 2.75" tips. The engine runs nice and cool and it's not loud at all. It's actually not even loud. I think they put lots of packing in the mufflers. I get lots of compliments on the sound and no complaints from the neighbors.
Here's the link to my review. FYI - the tips that are on in these pictures have been replaced with the custom tips they made for me.

Go for Fabspeed! They do the best headers with and without heat. I have their RSR equal length header system, and three different mufflers for street and track. Great quality and great sound. I also have a Fabspeed X-pipe for the headers for sale!

Is this the system you are running? http://www.fabspeed.com/911-carrera-...r-muffler-kit/

That was the original Fabspeed system i installed minus the headers and plus a MK premuffler when my car had a 3.2 engine.
I never really liked those gigantic exaust tips ...
After i swapped in a 3.6 i used a different Fabspeed muffler which used regular sized exaust tips.Another benefit of the Fabspeed system is
that the mufflers are double walled and will not rattle themselves to death a few years down the road. I get a bit of droning between 2-3 K rpms
but a motorcycle parts supplier sells nice inserts that install in the tailpipes to keep it under control.
The headers will work on a 3.2 as well as a 3.6 due to the flange design on one side.Yes you can retain the heat with the Fabspeed system. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me !
If you do purchase from them , get them to give you a free tee shirt

paulnsx, i'm not detecting huge terrible smell, maybe a whiff here and there, i've heard comments on other threads that there is a smell, but based on everything so far, i wouldn't go back to cat.

I have the full B&B exhaust - headers (with heat) and dual-outlet muffler, all courtesy of the previous owner. It's been on the car for about 12 years, and I only had one minor issue with a weld, which was repaired locally.
As for the sound - it's great! Definitely more aggressive than stock, but not enough to **** off the neighbors.

I have this awesome sounding Fabspeed X-pipe for sale. I paid $1,600 for it, used for about 10 hours. I changed it for an OEM GT3 titanium muffler... Give me an offer if interested!
