Default Shift Rod loose head

Hello Again. I am installing a SS Kit and noticed that the shift rod head is a bit loose but it's the shift rod that seems to be the problem, you can see the pin in the shift rod moving, slightly, right where it's been burnished.

Any opinions on a fix? Weld it? New one looks costly and a pain to get out but I think that someone has an easier solution.

Thanks!!

New shift rod. It's 40 years old... that 120 in dog years.

Its a pain to get out. Replace it.

If you remove the trans mount you'll actually see a small relief in the housing that will give you a bit more space to remove the rod-which as has been said needs to be done however you decide to fix it.

Okay thanks, not what I was hoping but kinda thought that might be the opinion here. Looks like a pain to remove, a real pain with the motor in.

Thanks again!!
