Default 1980 911sc fan rubbing on shroud, HELP

I have a 1980, 911sc, Weissach. I removed the fan and found cracks in the fan shroud. I purchased a new shroud from Sierra Madre parts, one of the aluminum ones made by EPS.
I had the alternator rebuild and had both bearings replaced. when I put it all back together, not in the car. The fan rubs inside the housing. The only thing that works is to space the fan outward with three washers under the fan, it then spins free. I have tried everything. Anyone out there have any Ideas. The fan is the original one. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Richard

This sounds like a common complaint with the reproduction housings. Gotta match the housing to the fan. I'd call SMC and make sure you got the right part.

I'd take the time to match the fan to the housing by sanding the inner housing for clearance then sealing the alloy with a clear coat.

It sounds like you're saying that it's rubbing all the way around the shroud, and not in one part. If the housing is cast, you might have a problem removing too much material and uncovering voids in the casting.
