Default Where Do You Buy Your Porsche Parts?

As a new member of the Porsche club I was wondering where you guys buy your parts? I want to hear it all: good and bad experiences.

I recently acquired a 1989 Porsche 911 and I'm self teaching myself how to do some basic work and maintenance on it.

I was looking at Vertexauto and Pelican. You guys have any experience with them (Prices, customer service, returns, etc...)?

Pelican is consistently excellent. The only downside is shipping across the country (I'm in CT)

I tend to check all of them before buying. For price including shipping... sometimes it is cheaper to buy original parts directly from Porsche via the discount that Sunset Porsche provides...but you must include shipping to confirm.

Pelican Parts
Sunset Porsche in Oregon
AASEE Sales
Vertex Auto - check shipping charges first! I have gotten burned with some charges when I do not validate.
Parts Klassik
Sierra Madre Collection - have been using them for parts for the 912 mostly...

Sheet metal

Restoration Design Inc.

Seat belts
Seat Belt Planet

For used parts

Jim @ Easy (this guy is great and very decent prices) - best to call Tel: 510.653.3279
LA Dismantlers
DC Automotive - also good to call

Suspension:
Elephant Racing (I get most through Pelican Parts, but some times I buy directly)
Ajay USA - when available, I have purchased shocks and strut inserts for a lot less than any other place... but again, you must shop around. Shocks for the SC were pretty much the same everywhere...

Cool stuff:
Rennline

Folks I don't bother anymore:

Auto Atlanta... too many bad experiences for me to go back to them

EBS is also a good source for hard parts.

Elgin is great for custom cams.

Also, I'd be a bit cautious about rebuilds from Vertex... not killing them, but I think they go for low price vs quality.

Autos International was great for my interior work.

Pelican is a good general source.

Excellent list. I'm lucky - located 15 miles from Sunset. They give a 10% discount for PCA members too.
I'd add a few as well:
Rothsport for no holds barred race gear. They also frequently have used oem parts they've removed.
Rennsport / Steve is a stand up guy too.
I had a speedo rebuilt at Seattle Speedometer. Great work.
I've had good luck with used parts from Parts Heaven in Fremont.
As said Jim at EASY is an honest fellow.
I've bought directly from Clewett for plug wires, etc. Great guy.

I bought some parts for my 1987 911 from Vertex. Maintenance kit, spark plug wires, SS brake lines and a master cylinder brake light pressure switch. Great pricing but that is where it ended. Two of the spark plug wires were too short for the application even though I specifically ordered for an '87 3.2; oil filter quite a bit longer than OEM so tough fit, brake lines were poor quality according to my mechanic who installed them, brake light pressure switch was poor aftermarket. I had to fabricate a pig tail to get it to work. Overall I wasn't impressed.

I now buy most of my parts from my mechanic who buys OEM and I install them. They might cost a bit more but at least I know they'll fit with no issues.

Let's not forget my friend Brian Farmer at www.Einmalig.com who has new/used/refurbished/replated and everything in between. It is super easy for me to sneak down to Huntington Beach at lunch time and pull the parts myself.

99% from Pelican, including pretty much everything on my engine rebuild. Handful of things from Zims here in DFW when in a time crunch but will Pelicans shipping so fast I end up getting parts faster than if I wait and try to find the time to drive out to Bedford from where I live in town.

Pelican is my usual goto, really nice because most stuff comes next day living in San Diego. Downside is i need to pay sales tax! Oh well.

For certain items it pays to check ECS Tuning (Ohio based) and FCP Euro (Conn based). Ive found ECS sometimes is much cheaper for OE Porsche parts than Pelican is. FCP Euro is a great place to check for things made by Bosch, Bilstein and Lemforder as its often cheaper than Pelican is. The other advantage is no sales tax, but downsize atleast for me is longer shipping time.

If you ever need interior work done, Bob Budd at Classic 9 is fantastic. Www.classic9leathershop.com.

Another great parts place is 928srus. Roger Tyson is great. Www.928srus.com.

Suggest joining national PCA club ($90 for 2 years) and your local Porche Club Region. You'll get the magazine Panorama monthy which has most of the good sources advertised.
Welcome and sweet aircooled machine.
