Mystery VIN?
Hello,
my friend bought a 911 85' as a project, (it's a mess) but the car came with a MPH cluster and he believes is a US spec 911. When I checked the VIN it started as W0PZZZ91Z.... I believe all euro/RoW VIN's started like this and unlike US VIN starts different, except maybe this rule doesn't apply for the 911 model (I know 930's are different at the begining of the VIN for the US spec as well)
Could someone point me out what spec is this 911? Or what options came? P-Dealer here is useless with this kind of request for such old car.
Thanks

You can't tell options by VIN, there should be a sticker under the hood & in logbook with option codes & VIN.

U.S. Spec cars will show ZZZ as part of the VIN sequence when using that chassis VIN. You need to reference the VIN shown on the driver side door jamb and/or the driver side windscreen post.

Yes, problem is, that the car was purchased as a project, car was already in pieces laying arround and the car has another color (originally red now silver) so all the decals are gone, also there is no owner manual booklet or the like to check more info.
A friend showed me his 930 VIN US spec and start like WP0JB09......I also have seen others 964's and 993's US spec start like that unlike the same model but for RoW start like WP0ZZZ......

^ true ROW have ZZZ in VIN in all locations, however US spec will still have ZZZ in that particular location as well. Maybe request a COA from Porsche.

Then maybe is somethign particular with this model. In that link of stuttcars there is a "9" which reflects as Z in this VIN and according to the web it state, yet, again, RoW/Euro.
My friend (owner) is trying to ID it as well, he sent me a little chart that state between certain secuence of the last numbers belongs to certain markets.
This VIN ends at 120646 and according to the chart is as follows:
So there you go, I'm still in doubt what it is the car at the end

are there lights in the front fenders on the side ? bumperettes wide or narrow, is there a fog light in the rear ? what is the serial number of the engine ? these may be a quicker ways to check

No lights in the front side fenders. Front headlamps were replaced with euro ones, it had the thick/fat ring of the common US spec Porsches before.

Also I will look into the engine serial number (is stamped on the left or right side of the "block"?)

us spec did not come with a REAR fog light ..
engine number stamped on right side of case facing the engine from the rear down by where the fan shroud mounts to the casing.

Not sure if it's relevant here, but I saw an ad for an SC with a rear fog light recently, and the seller said it was a us car where the original buyer requested the rear fog light as a factory option...

It isn't a mystery. The '2' in the 13th position indicates that is is a US Carrera. The 'WP0ZZZ' number on the chassis above the fuel tank is not the VIN, it is the chassis number. It is the same as the VIN number on ROW cars, but on US/Canada cars the actual VIN is placed upon the required VIN plate on the drivers A pillar and the compliance sticker on the door jamb.
