1982 911 Purchase
Hi All:
I found a 1982 Porsche with 100k miles in seemingly great condition for $27k. Is this price fair? The seller is firm
I have the local Porsche dealership doing a full inspection on her tomorrow.
I am new to this world so any advice is greatly appreciated.
Warm Regards

We need a lot more info than that! Coupe or targa? Condition? Meaning paint, body, interior, engine, etc.
The way you posed the question is equivalent to saying "I've bought a house for $500k, was it a good deal?".

Point being is that by eye, for a 1982 911 SC it looks to be in very good condition(interior, exterior, engine etc)
I won't know anything mechanical etc until the Porsche dealership does the inspection tomorrow.

Hi:
YES and NO.....
Has the chain tensioner and pop off valve been done? At 100K, has the clutch been done? AC, stock or upgraded, last time of re-charge? Fuchs (6 & 7 or 7 & 8's) or Aftermarket? Top Engine/Head work? Books/Records? Upgraded Exhaust could be an issue if you live in Cali.
Looks are a good place to start, but are secondary to a car being well sorted with provenance. Find out the above, let us know about the PPI and shoot some pics. The audience jump in on the "value" question at that point. Sounds like you are off to a good start.

First thing I'd check are head studs- expensive to replace if any are broken- I can't remember the last time I saw a 911 w/o updated tensioners. A solid SC coupe for $27k is a good buy.

Update:
I got the inspection back from the Porsche dealership (see following link)
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B2...M3clo2LWRYSVJ3
In summary, there are a bunch of little things and cosmetic things that I can handle. I can even handle that the a/c isn't working.
What is going to cause me to walk from the deal is the fact that the gas tank needs to be replaced soon and most of all the floor pan and frame where torsion bar meets it is rusted. The tech thinks it was caused by the battery leaking at one point.
You guys think I should walk or try to renegotiate?
Thank you!

The pan rust issue can be repaired. I've never seen a gas tank that didn't have surface rust on the bottom of it. It's just money; nothing on that issue list is cause to run, it just allows you to negotiate a big discount from the asking price. It's up to you whether you buy the car and fix that stuff, or keep looking. Based on the PPI results, this is not a "run away" car.
However, conspicuously absent from the PPI is compression and leakdown results. Those are essential to evaluating the health of the engine. If a top end rebuild is needed, you're looking at $10k+ depending on how far into the engine they need to go. Always make sure you get compression and leakdown tests. It will add hundreds to the PPI cost, but it is money well spent.
