Found the answer to my own question. I was about to go check that car out myself, at least I won't waste my time. Now it'll be interesting to see if they lower the price and change the copy of the ad. It was initially listed at 31k if I recall correctly.

$500 to replace the Valve cover gaskets!
Gas tank can be replaced for $500 and an afternoon. Not a big deal.

You should get a photo of the front pan and torsion bar rust.
That is the only big issue here.

Yes, the dealership dropped the car off the lift and didn't take pictures for me. (I am in Florida and the car is in NJ)

If the seller will work with me on price I may have a body shop quantify the cost of repair for me.

The seller has two other SCs they still can't move after a price cut, and they don't stand a prayer of selling your car anywhere near $27k, even less so with the end od the season upon us, so if they won't work with you tell them to go to hell, and let us know.

Even better, eat the PPI cost, hold off and wait for a no-rust, no-excuses local car in FL where there seems to be plenty of inventory.

Also +1 on compression and leakdown, you're still missing some important info to decide on the car.

If you're really set on buying the car, ask for recommendations here on the body work shop, don't call some random guy.

How did you pick that particular place for the PPI?

Good to know, I will keep you posted as to his response.

I just had the local Porsche dealership do the PPI because they are down the street and figured trustworthy.

IMHO an SC with "significant rust" is a red light.

These cars had fully galvanized bodies, and when well maintained should not evidence any significant rust. Unless you are a very experienced 911 guy, I'd be very suspicious of this car.

$27K should buy you a pretty clean, no excuses SC.

OK, yes that where is my head is at on it. I am not an experienced 911 guy so I do really appreciate the advice.

Not quite down the street... they're 50 miles away. Within that radius you have shops that come highly recommended such as Deman, Rennwerke, Rudtners, TKX and Lynmor. Mind you I never dealt with any of those but they have plenty of supporters here and on Pelican.

The thing is a 911 dealer doesn't see old SCs very often, whereas those indie guys work on them all the time. I imagine you could have gotten an estimate for the rust repair straight away from any of them...

Rust free cars in Florida. That's rich...

I'd run on this car. Torsion bar rust is no joke and on an SC not worth the trouble when do many were made.
