911 SC door panel gaps
I went to look at a 911SC Targa this morning and I would like to ask you guys about the body panel gaps.
The gap size are consistent between driver and passenger doors, but they’re both much wider than those on the SC of another person who was there with me. At the wide point I could almost fit my pinky finger in the gap. Driver door seem to sit slightly higher (a few mm) than the fender. Did the door panel gaps on these cars come in all shapes and sizes, meaning even if it’s very wide it’s not a big deal, or should that be cause for concern? I'm sure a PPI would say that but I'd rather know before I pay the $500.

Hard to tell. Left and right match? Mine look tighter than this. Even all around.

Doors gaps look OK.....Certainly look better than mine. Remember they were hand made on jigs, without the aid of modern computers and robots.
The real thing to look at if you are worried about warping is how the Targa top fits. Does it go on evenly? Targa owners can chime in there. I've got a cab and my passenger door has a larger gap than the driver's door, but the top lines up perfectly and all the seals are dead on.
Was it sitting on perfectly level ground? That does make a difference.
Gaps can always be adjusted with the M8 bolts on and in the door. It takes trial and error and a helper, but is doable.

Looks like the gaps on my 82 Targa, no accidents/rust and the doors have not been removed.
My Targa top fits perfectly and I do not have any leaks and the white plastic part on the latch looks perfect.
As mentioned before, these cars were hand built and there will be a slight variation depending on how much beer was being consumed by the builders on the assembly line.
