Default Longtime Kelly Moss Team Leader David Stone passes away.

Longtime sports car team owner and team manager David Stone passed away Wednesday after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Stone was the co-owner of Kelly Moss Motorsports and team manager of Level 5 Motorsports, having led both organizations to countless wins and championships.

His legacy in motorsports spanned three decades. Stone co-founded Kelly Moss in 1988, and along with his brother, Jeff, took the Madison, Wis.-based team to success in numerous series across North America, all with Porsche machinery.

While having served as a factory supported Porsche team in the ’90s, Stone also helped pioneer the “arrive-and-drive” customer business model, which saw Kelly Moss become one of the leading teams for gentlemen drivers.

Much of Stone’s recent success, however, came at Level 5, where he served as team manager and was responsible for the operations of the Scott Tucker-owned organization.

Under Stone’s leadership, Level 5 achieved four consecutive American Le Mans Series championships, four straight class wins at the Twelve Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans, class honors at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, as well as a podium finish in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Level 5 ranks as one of the most successful privateer teams in modern-day IMSA history, much to the credit of Stone.

Forever a winner!
