It's been on Pelican for $19.5k for some time. It looks like a nice car but I suspect the salvage title is hurting his efforts to sell it.

Jeremy's '74 on the other hand is going to go mile high. $41k last night just 6 hours after listing it? Sheesh!

yes, i agree about the salvage title but he's doing his best to explain the condition in the thread.
even 19.5k seems reasonable these day, tbh.

there are three auctions on BaT that i'm watching.

this one, the '74 iroc amber lamps mentioned and the '97 carrera s.

happy 4th, btw.

Salvage title could be a result of many things. I have seen flood damaged cars that were completely drivable totaled by insurance. A vandalized vehicle, often stolen, can result in salvage status with no structural damage at all. The title issue wouldn't dissuade me from a solid car given a full inspection. Structural damage is easy to find if you know where to look and what to look for.

Yeah, the '80 Weissach that's been through my hands a couple of times was originally "salvaged" in the late '80s (interior theft) because it was going to cost $15K+ to get the special leather and carpets. That was probably within $5K of what the car was worth at the time.

I have more reservations toward a grey market car than a salvage titled car. ROW cars are cool donors for the various details that usually make them a bit stronger, but of the dozens I've seen, they were mostly pretty poor cars...only a couple were pristine.
My early years at Autometrics, we did DOT conversions and LOTS of variables from VIN to gauges(think true mileage) and wholesale disassembly and fabrication of bumper/door reinforcements left its original condition mysterious. They were routinely vandalized in whatever port they sat awaiting customs clearing.
A salvage title will require a good eye. On face value, my 13k would be all over the car listed, especially if it were a coupe. If it had been wadded up at some point I think I could find it, and if not; it was fixed right and I'd be just as happy.

While I described the market perception I agree with the rest of you in practice on the S title thing. I tried to buy an S title '74 a week ago. I may be a bidder on this bat car as well. I'm trying to decide if I like the gold enough. If he had reduced his pelican listing price to $17.5 I might already own this car.

I'm interested to see if he gets the bat bump so many other air cooled 911s have gotten of late. This car could go to 21 or 22 when he couldn't sell it on pelican for less. Wouldn't be the first.

that would raise a very interesting question.

what's the best venue for a seller: specialty site, ebay, or now BaT?
D. all of the above

the comment section of BaT seems to really be helping this particular auction. more-so than the simple Q-and-A of ebay.

Bat is interesting. The members talk about the car in advance and select which ones go to auction. That in and of itself helps the car. This car went unnoticed on Pelican. Now it is in the light.

I think that color works really well on that car, if I was shopping for a targa I'd buy it in a heartbeat. SC's are really terrific cars.

less than an hour left and still sub 16K

wonder if there will be an ebay-type sniper at the last minute

BaT is set up to avoid snipers. It's a real auction. You bid with a minute left and time gets added to the auction to allow another bidder to make a decision without having to race to type faster than another. Each subsequent bid after auction end adds more time. It will only time out when ever bid is really truly placed.

Yes it is.

A nice guy got the car. He's gonna keep it and drive it. No flipper or dealer won that auction.
