Default Swepco oil, which one?

Hello Folks.

I am new to the forum. We have an 83 911 SC. The third gear shift is sometimes difficult, acts like a lazy syncro. However, sometimes it is prefect.

Reading the forums I am going to drain out the Red line GL5 and install Swepco.

My question, which one should I use, 201 or 210. Both seem to meet GL5 specs, and both are recommended here on this forum

Thanks for any advice.

From what I've read, Swepco is harding shifting when cold, and is more of a racing oil.
Look up the numerous posts where people switched to Kendall and preferred that over Swepco.

The Blue Swepco is for the street, and the Red is for racing.
The 915 transmission is a bit of a finesse thing, and definitely shift better when warm.

Redline is terrible in a 915. Swepco 201 is correct for a street car.

Agree. I've used Swepco 201 in my SC since I can remember. I use Redline in my 993.

I hope the redline did not damage your syncros. Swepco 201 the best for longevity although it does take a little while to warmup.

Mobil Delvac 75W90 works best in the G50 trannies.

901-915-930 transmissions all have balk-ring type syncros and as such, do not fare well with synthetic gear oils.

Non-synthetics are strongly recommended in order to prevent high rates of wear on a lot of (now) very expensive parts.

We've been using Swepco since 1978 without any complaints and that covered everything from street cars, to RSR's to our old 935.
